Keep your Computer Protected from Online Threats

If you followed my advice already you should now be using the internet in a way that protects your privacy and security better. But there are still a few other critical issues that must be looked at… your computer security, downloading from the internet and email. In this post I will address keeping your computer protected from online threats.
This is vitally important and no one should be complacent about this!
PC
If you have a PC, you should make sure your operating system is updated. If you have Windows 8, it is better to update to Windows 10 if at all possible (No I don’t endorse using Microsoft, just trying to help people where they are at). The reason why this is important is because when your computer operating system software isn’t up to date, you are more vulnerable to hackers exploiting a back door (for them an open door) to get into your computer and sow chaos in form of viruses and malware. From there they can destroy your files, steal your personal info/identity, rob you and more. Windows now has Windows Defender, which is included on every computer that has Windows 10. At your first chance, you should go to your settings and check that it is turned ON.
It works as good or better than most of the popular anti virus software’s on the market. If you want to use something more advanced then you can search online for a paid product, although you should do a substantial amount of research. Alternatively, you could call your local computer repair business for a recommendation, since they regularly fix computers affected by viruses, they see what works and what doesn’t. Still Windows Defender is likely good enough for most people.
Mac
Mac is generally safer than PC, although it isn’t impossible to get a virus on a Mac. Once again, keep your Operating system up to scratch and surf the internet safely.
Linux
Linus is awesome! (Just throwing it out there). If you are using Linux, you are likely more aware about privacy and security issues, so there is nothing to say here.
If your computer is protected quite well, the main thing you need to be vigilant about is using the internet in a safe way, especially with regards to email and downloading programs for your computer from the internet. More tips to come…
